JUNIE New artist under EMI's THE SECOND "UTADA HIKARU"?

17-year-old Korean singer/songwriter, Junie, recently won Japan?s ?Niji-Iro Supernova?. The show is a talent competition similar to American Idol and Superstar K, but focused on female vocalists. She flew from Korea to join the competition and ended up beating out 1,500 contestants. She is being dubbed the ?second Utada? because she has an affiliation with EMI Music, Utada?s label.

She arrived in Japan last June in hopes of studying abroad to polish up her musical sense, and she currently is going to a Japanese language school and taking guitar lessons at night. Her hobby is composing songs, and lately she?s been writing her songs in Japanese.

Junie has a sweet, nostalgic voice that gives off a Bonnie Pink vibe.

She will make her debut in early 2011.

Check out her video, ?We?re Together?.

"Junie has a sweet, nostalgic voice that gives off a Bonnie Pink vibe."

I was gonna close the tab and not watch the video until I read this. I'll try her out upon release. I was not disappointed.

Isn't every pop/R&B singer nowadays being dubbed the next Utada?

I mean, if they say she is like Bonnie Pink, then she's like Bonnie Pink. Bonnie Pink is not Utada.

Wasn't JASMINE also called the next Utada?

She's good, but the song is definitely not Utada.

In a lot of ways this is true. But I can make a list of artists that are experimentally on par with her if not exceed her.

She isn't but she is definitely on par with her form of experimentation. Bonnie Pink accessibility to the English language has served her better in her career than Utada's has.

I know. I said that with a joking sense. But, I really think Utada is very unique.

TurtleFu is right. I've heard several artists compared to Utada or even saying the next "Utada". But you can never predict. Utada is a living legend in the Japanese music scene. And their styles are way too different from each other.

I actually see that Judy and Mary, SMAP, and The Blue Hearts influence more particular sounds than her though. People find it hard to imitate the EMI 00's vets despite how high in regards they hold them.

As I believe, Ayaka was also called the 2nd Utada. Haven't heard from her since her debut.
