This is really saddening... I really hope she would push through with it. I think she's now really giving us signs of her retiry...:( I'm gonna miss her much :))

Since the March Sephora events she hasn't posted a single meaningful blog post or released a second single.
No updates on Myspace or anything.
I really don't believe she was really sick in May ( watch her body language when asked the question during the meet and greet). I think she simply decided to cancel those events because she made up her mind that she was done with album and the promotion of it.

It's obvious that meeting with her American fans in late March changed her entire perspective on her American career.
I really think she wanted to make it big in the beginning, she seemed very enthusiastic and she even named the album "This is the One" like she was saying "hey guys this is gonna be a big hit, this is the one!".

it's too bad she got so scared off by her American fans at the Sephora events that she decided it wasn't worth becoming big in America and dealing with all the crazy stalkers, papparazi and such. She probably feared for her life.

In the Yahoo interview when the interviewer asked her about her American fans she said "They are like wild crazy animals".
That pretty much sums it up.

Here's my prediction:
I think her English singing career is over but I believe she'll make one more album in Japan.
Don't expect anymore blog entries though, she is all done with that.
She'll probably retire for 2 years, get married, have a child and release a farewell album sometime in 2012 and do a very emotional international tour sometime in 2012 - 2013 as her goodbye to all her fans.

Now don't say that. She's just taking a break! And she has every right, even though it upsets us fans.

I think even if she does retire she'll get bored or something and want to make music later on. I could just imagine her coming back and saying, "Well, I got bored with just being at home."

She actually said..and I mean this very seriously,She was interested in Neurology. She got into Columbia, she could very well finish :/.If she retires within the next 4 years though I'd like her to really tink about writing for other artist.

Poetry, maybe a novel, I think Hikki will produce something literal, could even be?. well quote:

One of Eight Questions with Utada:

You're an alumna of Columbia University. What did you study there, and how was college life for you?

I quit after one semester. Does that speak for itself? University wasn't as challenging or interesting as I'd hoped -- it seemed like an extension of high school. I also had weird fans and paparazzi stalking me on campus and a few times I couldn't go home because Japanese tour buses were parked outside the gates. It was weird. I would love to return to Columbia University, when I am an old woman, to study biochemistry or Buddhism.

I think Utada?s attitude to her American fans was engrained alone time ago, but lets get things into perspective ?Japanese Tour Buses? ?.hey Hikki?.come on ?.fair dues..!!!

Edit; I mean literary, not literal

Dunno about that, Philipa.

I feel as though her Japanese fans are probably worse and creepier. They're just not as loud, outspoken and as obnoxious as their USA counterparts. To my knowing, no American has ever threatened with with a knife or anything similiar yet.

The stalkers were likely Japanese exchange students or whatnot anyway. Most Americans _still_ don't know who she is. It'll probabably stay that way.

I think that the whole 'not challenging enough' bit is just a cop-out. But I do believe that a tour bus and papparazzi would have a heavy bearing on her decision to stay or go. Didn't she mention one time that when she was in university, she realised that she had her whole life to get educated but wanted to make music _now_?

Prudent. Because people generally (young people) don't by music from artists over 35 years of age. No longer young, sexy and hip (unless you count artificial pelvic joints).\

Anyway, TITO has been aborted and flushed like an unwanted child.

Her stories are always changing constantly, can't believe much of what she says anymore.

The TITO abortion is such a joke, throwing an album into the garbage because she realizes now that she doesn't want to be famous in the US because..... her fans are so crazy?
What a crock of sh!t.
I think the truth is she probably realized her voice is completely shot now because of all her boozing and smoking and she didn't want to embarrass herself further like she did on the CBS Early Show. *sigh*

Watch these 4 performances and tell me that smoking and drinking have had nothing to do with her voice changing like this.

Before the smoking and drinking:

After years of excessive smoking and drinking:

She should either quit smoking and drinking so much and let her voice heal or just retire gracefully because her voice isn't even a third of what is used to be.

In regards to the CBS show, didn't she have to sing at like 5am though?

Was she sick when she performed POL? She didn't sound too great...

I heard that she damaged her voice greatly after UU06 and also changed her singing technique afterwards too...

Yea I recall noticing the change in her vocals after UU06. Maybe if she vocal trained she could control her voice better, which I doubt she will do.

oh!!! now I understand why even other j-pop artists perform lousily during live guestings :(. Smoking really could degrade one's voice quality.
