Many of you speak as though there is still hope for TITO - I believe that it was well over before it begun. Hikaru probably made this album to fulfill her contract, and IDJ probably wanted the contract to be fulfilled. It is likely that IDJ has given up on Utada. She is obviously well - she went to Hawaii, and can sing - having that Kareoke party. So why aren't the Best Buy (etc) promotions resuming? Because someone has given up. Either Utada feels crushed by dissapointment for the second time - or IDJ feels as though her promo thus far is not making any headway. I doubt that we will hear anything significant concerning TITO aside from spins of This One from hereonin.

In any case, many of you speak as though Island could have done a better job at promoting her as a new artist. I'm unfamiliar with how things work - but I do agree that the promotions really seem lacking. However, I feel as though I need to pose this question:

If time were reversed, and you were in charge of her promo team in IDJ: what would you do differently?

Because there still is hope for it. TITO was released physically here in May. Artists like Adele, Kings of Leon, Lady Gaga even Utada's lablemate The Airborne Toxic Event released their albums last year. Utada is not going to become a huge star here in the U.S. overnight or in a month. I agree IDJ and U3 are taking their sweet time giving us some news but I wouldn't be so fast to say TITO's dead in the water when This One has already garnered 51 spins and it hasn't been offically released yet. It may not seem that big but for a song by an unknown singer that hasn't been offically released already recieving spins is good. And CBTM managed to break into the Top 40 Rhythmic.
I can't help but wonder (I'm not saying your one of them) if there are some Utada fans who have hoped for the failure of TITO since day 1.

I wouldnt say there was a hope for failure. I think people just realise that it didnt have quite the impact everyone had hoped. Sure, there are quite a few people that were really pleasantly suprised with the album when it came out, but I must admit I was not overly astounded by it.

I know this sounds risky, but I think what Hikki should try, is working off of her own back. You know, like use her own record label in the US. That way she knows exactly whats going on. But we all know she is probably more than capable to do it.

I hoped for it to be good at least.I didn't have high expectation of sells but when I saw the cover I said "This is doomed".I then figured that we can get an alternate cover actually. But nope,I was so wrong. The album is not getting enough coverage to have people care.It won't take a month....but we had 3.IDJ doesn't need to have the artist campaigning for themselves if they do actually use some solid promotional efforts. They could even plug Utada for the NBC Toyota Concert Series.Distribute some billboards.Do what we've been saying since before the album was released,a collaboration with some else on the label. You got Kanye,Rihanna and even Fall out Boy at your disposal. The album was never gonna get promoted, and the best they did of it was that "Utada album now $5 dollars at AMAZON!!!" notice at the official site.

I'm glad there is still hope for TITO because she can still probably get a hit out of it, it may take a long time (maybe like, 7 months or so) for it to be a bigger hit than it is now.

So true, so true.

I wanted TITO to succeed. I was thinking that it'd kick Exodus' ass and then some. My expectations were not unrealistic: I was hoping for a decent amount of sales. But I was dissapointed. In the cover, in the choice of a first single, and then in the way that promotion just STOPPED. And the album, while having many enjoyable songs, felt a bit TOO mainstream; how can you stand out if you look (sound like) everyone else? Sure, people argue that EXODUS was just that - it was different and it failed because it was different. I disagree! It failed because it sucked. It was just a damned poor album in general. I could go on and list specific reasons on why Exodus sucks - but ultimately, I'll let the lack of sales speak for that album.

And now, I expect not to hear from Hikki for another 8months ish on her blog, just like EXODUS. She's on another Exodus, if you'd pardon the pun.

I get the feeling that us hardcore fans are the only one that care about TITO now.

Yeah its true that Utada seems to be well so obviously they stopped promotion for something. Regardless, people may learn about Utada by other people and she can gain popularity over a period of time. TITO promotion will never truly die as long as we spread her music.

@ LoBFCanti: I was actually thinking about all the great people she could have featured on her album ... but now I'm thinking that maybe Utada wouldn't like it because it would interfere with her style? I remember she collaborated with Neyo to remake his song "Do You" and it was better than the original, but that was never played anywhere.

It seems like she has access to big r&b stars for her songs ... and she needs to use that if she wants to have people that never heard of her before request her songs.

I really do feel that there is the potential for a top 20 hit for either, This One (Crying Like A Child) or Dirty Desire, and Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence ? FYI is out in front there too.

Why has everything stalled, and I think that is a fair analogy, all it takes is for all parties to start the ball rolling again.

Even with the limited 3 week blitz CBTM debuted well on iTunes, and TITO climbed well into the top 100 breaking records. TITO is not by any means consigned to history, just need reviving, and the team Utada has assembled, (U3,IDJ,The Door), have all the expertise and experience to achieve this, after all Utada has more than 10 years in the music business, as songwriter, musician, and producer, so no more excuses.

As the immortal scene in the 1931 movie Frankenstein goes:...Look! It's moving. It's alive. It's alive... It's alive, it's moving, it's alive, it's alive, it's alive, it's alive, IT'S ALIVE!

TITO with the right care and attention ...

I agree Pips_Paradise with the right promotion TITO could reach into the Top 20.

Really..... i'm not pessimistic, i just want to be realistic how TITO can reach Top 20. And what kind Top 20 ? IDJ seems like careless with Utada, and that's a big problem right now. To make sure this TITO is a worth album to sell.
