it's the same here

and the thing that irritates me is that, whenever the girls gets raped or molested, then it will automatically be the guys' fault, right?

but at the same time, they should really ask themselves, are they at fault, of attracting unwanted attention, purposely?

yes, it is the trend, but lotsa men have little self control, and when they lose their senses, you know what i mean

now, who is the freak who introduced this trend

otaku mean someone obbsessed with something, generally anime or video games. Otaku is a negitive word (like nerd or geek in english), but stupid americans... we misunderstand this and just use the word like fanboy/girl (same principle in japanese pi shi[pc] otaku, gamu [video game] otaku, etc but in japanese its an insult). This is in general and its negetivity is waning. But still otaku spend most of their time doing 1 thing.

As for the first chick to start the shortening of skirts who knows. I personally think it started with the girls who "sold dates" (cough cough prositute ) to the old business men (yes the girls were under age, and yes the men spent a lot of money on them). Oh yea this still goes on today... Anyways since such a high number of girls were "dating" the older men I think a bunch of them shorten their skirts (for the aforementioned reason) and since they were pretty and rich (from the business men) they were probably popular. Anything popular people do others will follow. So I believe more (non-dating) ladies started doing it.

Of course this is only speculation and theory. Its just my hypothesis on what happened, all could be false. Well except the school girl dating thing. That is 100% true. I'll look up the japanese name for it later.

About the skirts, my friend said that lots of girls pull it up really high to make it look like a mini-skirt.(sounds uncomfortable to me :/ )

But the skirts I saw were all around mid-thigh so I'm going with jigen's theory.

Okay I found it, the name of the school girl "dating" thingie is Enjo kōsai. Its just like I said. I knew lots of kogals did it, but I wasn't sureo I left that out of my original post. We do that in the US, too, to some extent. The girls just pretend they're 18, and the men buy them things instead of paying them in cash.

In a way, it exploits the girls more(if there's any exploitation going on in the Japanese version, I guess it's debatable), since they don't have any monetary compensation.
