Well... (shifts uncomfortably) I like Ayu. Sometimes her voice does get to the point where it feels like my eardrums are being beaten to death, but I like her because I was a child of the Nineties, growing up in America, so I was big into pop. You know, until it went out of style in like, '98, when Destiny's Child took over.

But anyway, I don't really dislike her early work (I liked A Song for XX (song) until about half-way through, when it goes all rocky and very un-poppish), and my favorite album of hers is (miss)understood. A lot of people say they don't like it, but I guess I'm weird like that :/

Also, Ayu was once a rapper. In my experience, Japanese rap, while capable of being just as dirty and hateful and skanky and horribly-composed as American rap, is just a bit more user friendly. The fact that she DID rap (and rather well at that) is amusing in itself. She was certainly better at it than say, Koda Kumi or Mr. Blistah, IMHO.

I suppose a couple of her songs do have rap in them, in a way. Like, Evolution. I can think of a few others, but I always get the names of her songs mixed up, and I don't want to sound like an idiot.

Ayu is so huge, and a lot of her songs are so catchy you have to like at least a couple of them. Plus, she's had some seriously awesome DJ's remix her stuff. Lange, Dumonde, Future Breeze...
