you use katakana when writing english names in Japanese like stereo, an american or whatever nationality except japanese persons name. You use katakana for borrowed words or names from foreign countries

1=ich' 2=ni 3=san 4=shi/yon 5=go 6=rok' 7=sh'ch'/nana 8=hach' 9=kyuu 10=juu 11=juu ich; 12=juu ni and so forth for those 20=ni juu/hatach' 21=ni juu ich' 100=hyaku 1000=sen 10000=man 100000=juu man (i think) |

9 is written out as kyuu in hiragana. A lot of people in Japan dnt mind it when u say it as ku when going from 1 to 10.
