yeah hope it comes back and if ever they try on improving or updating the avatar option, I hope they could allow us to submit ordinary photos and then the site would just auto-fit it to an avatars size

Hmm...I suddenly want to change my avatar again lol. But it's back to the default ones. Ah well, time to wait again until the use of submitting our own avatar is up.

The admins do update and check stuff for the site, but sometimes there are features that are either being worked on or they're not working the way some of us would like for it to. The avatars are the only real thing for me that goes back and forth from working well and then not. I'm sure it's hard work maintaining the site, so I guess it's just been unnoticed.
