Here's a neat little thing I learned...

When writing the topic marker "wa" it is written with the hiragana of "ha" !

therefore,
Example:私は元気です~ Watashi wa genki desu. ~I am good.
not: 私わ]元気です


but if you are writing a word with "wa" in it (this is if you were writing it in hiragana) then you would use わ


sooo when writing the subject marker "wa" you use "ha" but it is still pronounced "wa"


I know, its a little confusing but if you see it a lot you start to pick it up. hope that made some sense....

here's what I've learned from youtube:

Kore - this
Sore - that

examples:

Kore wa kamera desu ka?
(Is this a camera?)

Kore wa kamera desu.
(This is a camera.)

REMEMBER: by adding "ka" at the end of the sentence, it becomes a question. The sentence pattern doesn't change. Just add "ka".

in answering:

Hai, sore wa kamera desu.
(yes, that is a camera.)

Negative Form:

Kore wa kamera desu ka?
(Is this a camera?)

Answer in negative:
Iie, Sore wa kamera dewa arimasen.
(no, that is not a camera.)

REMEMBER: "~dewa arimasen" is the negative form of "~masu" while "~ja arimasen" is less formal, and "~ja nai" is not formal.

in "~masu" the less formal form of it is "~ru/~iru/~eru".

Ahhh~ thanks! I have had trouble with Japanese negatives lately
