WKQI-FM detriot
gave CBTM its first play in Detroit.

CBTM is picking up pace in the last few days....

but it seems like the TOP 10 markets besides Philadelphia and New York are not playing CBTM, even Philly and NYC have almost stopped playing CBTM this week. Boston, Chicago, LA, San Francisco, Atlantic, Washington, Dallas, Houston...none of them are playing CBTM. Not to mention none of the TV outlets are playing her video.

Can somebody give some insight to this?
Is this because the music company isn't paying the radio networks enough or are these large cities radio stations more conservative with their playlists?
I heard they spent over a million in promotions for EXODUS,
I wonder if they're spending the same here...
but even a million sounds like nothing when you're promoting to a country as large as the US.

Addressing the rest of your post, it's true that bigger markets are a little more conservative than smaller ones--- they realize how influential they are and want to keep up reputations of only playing "the hottest" tracks, so they can be a little slower to come around than smaller markets, who try to make up for their smaller status by being the place where "You heard it here first!"

The practice of giving money to radio stations to play a song is called 'payola' and it's illegal so hopefully nothing like that's going on here.

The situation with WRDW Philadelphia breaks my heart because they were a huge station that gave Utada a lot of love for a week or two and then just suddenly dropped it. If I were to guess what happened probably a staffer from IDJ got WRDW into a 50-spin (or around there) commitment to the song, and after that either didn't get an enthusiastic enough response from their audience or the song wasn't rising fast enough nationally for their liking and dropped it. That's just me speculating though.

As for Z100, all of CBtM's spins there were from their morning show, because one of the hosts took a liking to Utada at the Sephora event and then they brought her on the show itself. After that the station hasn't played her since. I don't think this means that we should give up on the station, and as long as Utada's still on their Mediabase request page we should continue supporting her there.
