Wow I haven't visited here for like a week cuz of skool and now reading some shocking new...IMO people should relax a bit, why making a fuss. This is not like something that unheard of before; celebrities here in the States (like Madonna) make headline about this same topic so I don't see why we have the right to criticize her.
We're all human so we made mistake every now and then. I'm sure most of us have had cheat or lie before. So it's not fair that we hold it against her.
As a fan, the quality of the artistic works is much more important to me because cuz that's what we all enjoy right. For personal life it doesn't really matter much IMO.

The thing about Hikki's fans is that a lot claim to be fans of because she's such a lovely person with great personality. This is one main reason why so many love her, it's not only her music you know.

imo, I don't really care if she have a boyfriend, as long as she know as well as the rest of us how to take care of this person.

To say that cheating is OK just because there are tons of other celebs or people in general who does it is just stupid. It's a fcked up statement.

Takke may be right about how the Japanese think about this kind of thing, but to me that does not matter much. Hikki did wrong, there is no more to it. No idea trying to smooth it out with "everyone does it". To me it's unaccepted to do such thing. And as I said before, it does not matter who you are - I'll still not approve of it. If my friends would cheat on their boy/girlfriend I would lose a lot respect for them, even though they're my best friends. This is not how you SHOULD treat others.

This is not from a religous perspective, I'm an atheist. I'm talking about ethics and moral. Common sense.

I can stick with the "we're all just human"-thing though. :)

If you wonder: It's not like this news made me not like her music less. I just feel slightly disappointed.

(This was not necessary only a answer to your post btw, eternityluv ^^)

people might think im a dick if i say this but if you ask me, life would be pretty dull without cheating...........

well yeah, then you're (censored)ed up too. xP

why are u guys making such a big deal about hikki cheating??

I was wondering the same thing. All the heated discussions here REALLY scared me,
but I just wanted to share what people in Japan really feel regarding all this...

She hasn't done anything wrong by the Japanese standard.
America seems to be extremely conservative IMO.

In Japan, a lot of celebrities talk about their sex life on TV.
This evening I saw a female celebrity on TV and she said that she needed to have sex 5 times a day.
I thought it was funny and I'm sure most people felt the same way.

I also want to say that drinking is a huge part of our social life and talking about it
is very common. You hear it all the time on TV. Utada isn't the only one who talks about it,
and actually she doesn't even seem such a mighty drinker considering the fact that
she enjoys vodka tonic which is considered to be very light...
She should go for something stronger such as nihonshu(sake)!!!

Utada isn't an aidoru(idol) like Morning Musume... Aidoru are expected to have squeaky clean image,
but Utada is a singer-songwriter and no one expects her to be squeaky clean.

It seems that people on this board don't know much about Japan.

tats what i thought too lolz even tho hikki like to drink, i bet she don't even drink alot

Tippy Toe was not about her cheating, it's about her being the mistress and fooling around with a man who is married with a family. The only song that she stated she cheated was 'Come Back To Me'

My personal opinion, everyone is taking this a little too seriously. I mean yes cheating is a vary bad thing and it should never have an excuse, but if we was to deny and not accept someone who cheated, we'd be denying half of the world. Utada is just women, a human, we should just listen to the music and not care what she does. I' pretty sure you've all done something that someone would say it's wrong, right? that's the point I'm coming down too, we all make mistakes, just because she's a celebrity doesn't mean we should hate/love her for them, and pay more attention to them.

totally right.

this is weird, but i was looking at this thread earlier and thinking about how to a small extent she could be singing CBTM to not just the person she cheated on, but to her fans who just found out this truth as well. you could say that she's telling her fans to "take it easy" on her, to "come back" to her music regardless of her past.

it's a serious stretch, i know, and you're probably looking at this message right now and thinking i'm crazy. but it makes sense in my mind both ways. i don't know why lol.

bottom line: no matter what she's done, realize that she's human, just like us, and makes mistakes, just like we do. it should make everyone happy, in a way, to think that we all have that in common with our dear hikki!

Aids is actually a big problem in Japan right now... Has been for several years... I'm sure that the medical community there has started doing Aids testing as a mandatory part of a physical... which is what Hikki was doing... but I also think that the medical community has started informing their patients about their medical problems far better than they used to... If anyone would like to confirm this... or not... I don't care really. And please... if any of you had listened to Exodus, you know she cheated already... Track 6 Tippy Toe anyone...

To me, it does not matter if you're an aidoru, singer-songwriter or just somebody on the street. You still should not cheat. It's somewhat like a "treat others like you want to be treated"-thing.

The thing is that I just can't think of a reason good enough to cheat on someone.

I don't approve of it in general. She did not dissappoint me neither more or less than Macdan just did when he said he had cheated on someone. And I don't care how common it is to cheat, that is not something that makes it more accepted.

Thank you sooooo much for clarifying that. Am much more relieved now. :)

Haha, you're right. For me at least -- I really don't know much about the Japanese society, even though I reside in Asia. I guess the best way to truly understand Japan is to live there for some time and experience what it's like to be Japanese? But that's out of topic so I'll *zip* now.

Personally, I'd like to know what my favorite artist is up to usually but that does not affect my love for her work. As long as Hikki is composing great music, it doesn't matter what goes on in her personal life. It does scare me a little though, when her success is undermined by things not exactly related to her art; she should be judged by her work and performance, not her lifestyle habits and whatnot.
