i don think Utada famous in Malaysia..@.@ but most of my fren know her because of me XDDDD  some of my fren say they like "come back to me" song and "first love". Some of my fren love to insult her T.T Example:(Utada suck utada suck!) my aunt know first love song by utada because is a popular song~ P/s:am i out of topic? O.O  |

You're not off topic. It's kinda relevant. It's not surprising that most people can only think of First Love when the name Utada Hikaru is mentioned. When I tried to talk about her to my cousin brother, he was like, "Oh, the one who sang First Love? That was like a few years ago right? Kinda old." Oh guess what, that song is older than you think. That was what will say to most people who thinks she's only famous for First Love.

Yea same sentiments exactly. In Singapore, Utada's only famous for her 'first love'.They are ignorant of her when I mentioned her name. I have to say, "the one who sang first love". Kinda sad to know that she is only famous for that song.....

Malaysian Fan here..( FYI: I stay in Kota Kinabalu and Miri )
Sadly to say, it's all the same like u guys over here..other than "Hikari" and "Passion", "First Love" is the only cue that you could ever come up with for people to recognize Hikki. Surprisingly, TITO has produced a few songs ppl could recall..titles such as "This One" and of course "Come Back to Me"! Good thing her music's getting more exposed..credit to MTV and Channel V. Still think Hikki should do more marketing in our region..her music can really sell :\ |

yeah its a little sad to admit that most people only know her thru 'first love' or kingdom hearts game.
the language barrier is really the key here. if all people can speak/understand japanese (which is the bulk of her music), i think she will be more popular than most western artists out there. at least she gets recognized though. |
