reading comments from fans of the comic/anime "Ashita no Joe" on MIXI... a lot of them are not in favor that Hikki's singing the theme song.
who cares, it sounds good! I can't wait to hear the whole song! |

well...based on what I've seen of what the movie is about, if I were one of the fans, I would've assumed that the theme song would be by a guy or a rock band or something, like Green Day. Or in japan, UVERworld. |

What is "Ashita no Joe" about? Maybe there's something about the plot that they think Hikki doesn't fit in to sing the theme. Anyway, the song alone is good not mentioning that it will be the theme song of this movie. |

Found the lyrics Show me love
Baby show me love It's all in my head Can you show me love It's all in my head Not a dream 紫の信号が点灯(ひか)って思考停止 不安だけが止まらない 私は弱い だけどそれは別に (Inside my lavender dreams) 恥ずかしいことじゃない 実際 誰しも深い闇を抱えてりゃいい 時に病んで、もがいて、叫んで叫んで 痛みの元を辿って Show me love 元を辿って Baby show me love It's all in my head Can you show me love It's all in my head Not a dream 築き上げたセオリー忘れよう 山は登ったら降りるものよ 実際 どんな深い愛も完璧じゃない 自分でしか自分にしてあげられない 自分を認めるcourage Show me love 認めるcourage Baby show me love 実際 夢見てばかり見ていたと気付いた時 初めて自力で一歩踏み出す 私の内なるパッセージ 内なるパッセージ It's all in my head It's all in my head |

You know what, I say in the most politically incorrect way, screw anyone who thinks she shouldn't be singing the theme for "Ashita No Joe;" I mean seriously, I want everyone to feel entitled to their opinions and not turn a blind bias to absolute crap, but this is just ridiculous. Utada hardly ever releases new singles and even more rarely are they endorsed at such a mainstream level with a tie-in, who honestly doesn't 'like' that's she's doing this besides people that just plain dislike her for ignorant reasons. I bet anything that she's a better singer and songwriter than any of the 'other' J-pop 'artists' that they had in mind to do it (another run-of-the-mill rock schlock from EXILE or perhaps a syrupy half-listenable ballad from a Johnny's act???); Not that I'm trying to take prisoners with that last statement but its funny how you never hear people say this kind of thing about a Koda Kumi and Ayumi Hamasaki, who pump out singles and albums by the buttload in short lapses with diminished creative input to play its saving grace. You'd think people would just be satisfied in it being a great song for its own sake (and if the movie bombs commercially or critically, it'll still be as such; unlike say Dragonball Z Evolution and a certain J-pop princess' B-rate 'Rule')?
But back from my rant, Ashita No Joe is a boxing manga/anime all about a rising star protagonist in the sport from Tokyo's slums who's being challenged by all these formidable thugs and experienced talents. Perhaps Show Me Love's lyrics would better suit a romantic comedy or some supernatural thriller in their minds but that's absurd; the music and content of it clearly has a more profound meaning and expression than mere sentimental romanticism (this is, like I said, a truly prog rock metal epic, at least 45 seconds of the way in its run time)! Most people are leaping mountains and desert plains to get her to perform and create a theme song for whatever they need endorsing for, so I say to heck with anybody having a 'problem' with her singing the theme and not even giving any kind of viable purpose or reason for saying so. People can be so unnecessarily negative and pessimistic sometimes (*eye roll @ yours truly )... |

Definitely recalls "Uso Mitai na I Love You" in certain respects, what with the formulated rock-guitar sound blasting down doors behind her penetrating, if a bit too pop-ish, vocals (in my opinion, her voice is much better suited to ambient atmospheres, but I trust her to make it work; she did it with Kremlin Dusk, quite masterfully). Nonetheless, it sounds like the kind of song she would absolutely KILL live. I can see this song being one of the highlights of the WILD LIFE concerts.
As for its relation to the movie: eh. I can imagine there are probably songs that might be more fitting given the nature of the film, but to make judgments about its appropriateness based on 30 seconds is a bit premature. Besides, it'll probably play during the trailers and maybe the credits. At most there might be a montage sequence backed by it for about a minute. I don't see how it interferes with the quality (or lack thereof) of the movie itself, so I imagine everyone could just give the complaining a rest and move on to discussing the merits of the film rather than the drawbacks of having a song they don't like connected to it in a completely non-inhibiting fashion. |
