Wouldn't deny that she really put effort into her performance. It was obvious so I'm giving her thumbs up for that. Despite the failure to hit notes and so on, it was really evident she was trying her best (and putting lots of emotions in it -- one of the main reasons why I love her as a musician) and that actually made me sad. Don't ask me why. I just don't know why. The whole hiatus, Wild-Life thing is making me emotional. Yes, I'm aware she still has a contract bla bla.

I second that. But on the previous note, I still stand on what I've said. That I don't think 8th was horrid. It may at some point, but as you said, seeing Hikki singing and giving all of her is the most priceless thing in this concert. I've got a poor Japanese to understand what she said on the MCs and even the lyrics of the song but the way she spoke and sang.. It's so precious. Anyone who knows how hard she worked for every single song she made would be emotional by it.

Well, I would not describe it as horrid. It wasn't horrid at all. Although, yes I'am aware that she fails on most of her performance. For the record, I've seen Wild Life 7x in a row. There are times that she hits this note, then after a while she could barely hit another note. I'm pretty sure this all started during UU06. The time when I think she struggles too much with her voice.

Wild Life performance of Hymne a l'amour, Stay Gold, Passion(although at the end part she slipped), First Love & Can't wait til' Christmas are good enough. I know for a fact that Hikki tried and gave her best for this concert. I couldn't say that she wasn't prepared for this day. She is, it's just that.. her voice is not in a good condition for most of us to tell.

And, yeah.. Hikki trying so hard to perform her songs on the 8th kinda suffered me. Specially when she sang Blue. She fails to reach the high notes. But I'am actually glad that she was giving her best at that time.

PS: I haven't downloaded the mp3-rip of the 9th performance due to a slow net connection, but maybe I could comment again if I'd hear it.

Listen to Blue on the CD and then listen to her wildife performance of the song.
She hits all the high notes.
The only songs that she was flat on was in the beginning but she warmed up and her vocals were quite good after that. Letters and beautiful World were shaky but Prisoner of love, take 5, Passion, show me love, Blue, sakura drops, stay gold etc etc... were awesome!

You people need to understand that post UU06 (vocal chord damage) she is not the same singer but she can still sing beautifully and better then 90% of the singers in America.
She sang Hymn la Amour and Across the Universe like they were the easiest songs in the world to sing because she didn't write them.

Hikki writes beautiful but very difficult songs to sing that are up tempo and contain a ton of transitions between low, high and medium.
Artist don't even attempt to cover her songs from fear of sounding awful ( see namie amure's cover of Kettobase).

Give Hikki a break (pun unintended), she is amazing and doesn't deserve this microscopic critiquing from her fans.
Stop dwelling on a few flat notes and enjoy the concert.

True, I wanted it to be perfect and there were a few glitches but I second what you wrote:

I agree completely. And I don't know what everyone is talking about. 'Blue' originally sounds that way and I loved her performance of it. She put on a great show regardless of some flat notes here and there.

Well, you are right with what you said. I've got nothing against it. I heard Blue both on CD on Wild Life tho.

I'm not dwelling on it anyway. I just said what I've observed but overall, I really enjoyed the concert and even made me cry. I look so crazy crying infront of the monitor while my cousins are at my back, hearing me sniff a little. lol. It made me feel like half of me was taken away.

EDIT: stating some of my observations won't lessen my love for Hikki.

nothing to be ashamed of, I was pretty moved all concert long and Across the Universe totally overwhelmed my last line of defence. It's a beautiful song written by a man who's dearly missed and she sang as if she had just penned down the lyrics and melody a few days before.

Yes. "Across the Universe" is one of my favorites in the concert. It was so random to see her with a guitar and sing the song. I really love it. At first I thought she's gonna sing "Be my Last" because I saw a live performance of Hikki singing Be my Last with a guitar.

I have only seen about half the concert, but it was difficult watching UH butcher one of my fave songs (Blue). I'll put on some better headphones and turn off my laptop speakers. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

It was either under practice or over practice. They probably practiced much and often, as one'd forget and screw up the lyrics with so many songs. I'll give her benefit of the doubt and attribute it to the bad recording quality that I found off of this "Internet".

Heavens forbid that someone even think of Utada as a human being that can screw up instead of some kind of God-tada being. Heavens further forbid that a few of us have our own opinions, too. I was hoping for a better performance after hearing about how she was the bee's knees in her 2009 concert.

EDIT:

Thank you, Sokuri. I thought that the concert looked much more than 11,000!

I agree with Ultra_Red, i dunno why everyone is saying Hikki cant hit those notes in Blue.. I thought she hit all of the notes in it..even after I listened to the recording, and I even thought it sounded really good in that song(maybe its just me). Anyways, as I said before I thought she sounded good overall(flat notes here and there shouldn't ruin the entire concert for people).

Not dwelling or complaining. Just merely stating what I've observed and to be truthful I am pretty concerned with her vocal issues because I do not wish to see her vocals get affected further. (BECAUSE I HAVEN'T SEEN HER LIVE IN PERSON YET! lol, I'm just hoping that if she ever had a live performance some time in the future, I could be there and her vocals wouldn't be more damaged than this, you know what I mean?)

Yes, I would concur that her songs utilizes different pitches and they're not easy to sing. She nailed Across the Universe. I really like that cover. I might like this cover more than With or Without You. I've got no love for Fly Me to the Moon.

Speaking of other artists covering her songs, someone actually covered Kettobase? I've got to check that out. Hopefully it's on YT. Definitely not an easy song to sing.

With all that said, the overall experience wasn't ruined at all. The live streaming on the 8th felt magical and I was really glued to the laptop. Despite frustrations due to lagging and disconnections and her damaged vocals(I just had to point that out! lol), it was fantastic. And yes, such issues would obviously not affect my love Utada, after all, she's the only pop artist that I like.
