I wouldn't hold my breath for this rumor..It sounds completely fabricated..But I do understand that some fans are really hoping for some type of action from her while she is on break..But she has disappeared for a while a couple times during her career... so if she ends up coming back in two years..it really wont be too different from what she normally does..

Yeah, but I just hope she doesn't do what L'arc en Ciel did. They returned from a hiatus this year just to re-release their old music and play some concerts. If they don't release anything else this year it will be as if they added another year to the hiatus, in my opinion.

I took a glance once more on the wikipedia page of The X Factor and Hikki's name is already removed from the judges. Apparently, it was added to her wikipedia page.

Ok we have two distinct scenarios? here, one that?s working on the premise that Hikaru Utada has accepted a role on US X Factor, and a second that Hikki was approached to be a judge, now "Nodo Jiman Shiroto Ongakukai", and credit to Cousin Keiko........ Japan's X Factor Celebrates 64th Anniversary...

http://www.hyperjapan.co.uk/news/52-street/198-japans-x-factor-celebrates-64th-anniversary.html

And Will Cheryl Cole Join Simon Cowell on X Factor USA......

http://www.financebehavior.co.uk/news/will-cheryl-cole-join-simon-cowell-on-x-factor-usa/08/02/2011/

Just one of the sponsors.....

http://www.just-drinks.com/news/pepsico-confirms-x-factor-sponsorship_id102758.aspx

Simon Cowell to judge "X Factor", offers $5 million prize......

http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/02/07/us-thexfactor-idUSTRE7163SX20110207

Just the UK version, quote ?THE X FACTOR is currently shown in 17 countries worldwide with a global audience of more than 500 million?....

http://www.barcelonareporter.com/index.php?/news/comments/x_factor_usa_2011_simon_cowell_threatens_to_halt_launch_us_x_factor_if_cher/

Hiatus?s are meaningless when Utada has signed a new global contract with EMI that now rests in the governance of Citibank/group, that will redeem value over the next fiscal quarter, ironically read the e mail none other than Roger Faxon, (the same Roger Faxon that sanctioned and underwrote Utada?s new Global recording contract) sent to staff Globally.... Utada contract now is in the sole ownership of Citigroup....A bank!!!! .....

A question?.........

Why in god?s name did Mr T sign a contract with a company that was inevitably bankrupt....Mr T has been in the business for over 30 years....

Now what does this all mean to Utada and U3, Japan is a potential gold rush where the X factor formula is concerned, if Utada can bring new business revenue into Citibank by facilitating a franchise, the numbers start to rise off the scale...I have no doubt sitting next to Simon Cowell would be the last place Utada will want to be, but this is a business and Utada is a professional musician who has signed a deal, Citibank will not wait around for 5 year for a return.......

From Bloomberg Business week ......

http://www.businessweek.com/news/2011-02-01/citigroup-takes-control-of-emi-ending-hands-ownership.html

If the opportunity exists in the US for Citibank to gain a stake in a franchise as lucrative as the X factor format in Japan, count on the fact that personal issues like hiatuses will not come into it...

Quote:

"The U.S. bank, which funded Hands?s takeover in 2007, will own all of EMI after the debt-for-equity swap, the company said in a statement today. The deal will reduce London-based EMI?s debt by 65 percent to 1.2 billion pounds ($1.94 billion). The agreement may lead to a sale of a record label of the Beatles and Pink Floyd. Warner Music Group Corp. and BMG Rights are among bidders that have expressed interest in EMI?s publishing and recorded assets. Last year, Hands sued Citigroup, saying it had tricked him into buying EMI, and sought extra cash from his backers to stop the label breaching debt covenants in a bid to avoid losing control of his most high-profile investment?

Remember BMG............this is pivotal to the X factor element......

Except that contracts can be made with provisions, and one of Utada's may have been a set point at which the contract would take full effect indicating a time in which, but not before which, the record company reserves the right to commission more work from her. Until then, Hikki may be free as a bird. Also, I'm not clear on the legitimacy of a record company using a music contract as a means of strong handing an unwilling musician into appearing on a television program, even if it is remotely connected with their professional sphere of influence. That's not to say I would be surprised: business is business, after all. However, Hikaru Utada is, even on a practical business level, a tenured public entertainment figure who is going to hold a lot more sway over her own professional future than some wet behind the ears pop starlet, so I'd imagine it wouldn't be so simple as EMI demanding she appear on the show and her immediately cowing down to its authority. Furthermore, Utada has worked diligently with EMI over the past ten years and I can't see them wanting to damage what appears to be a mutually healthy relationship with one of their best-selling artists (a rarity in the pop music world if there ever was one). IF Utada does this I think it would be because she wants to do it, but on the whole I think it's a false rumor. For her to have been approached I could understand as EMI, The X Factor and everyone involved simply covering their bases; for her to have accepted would genuinely surprise me.

Good job on all the research, though. I never knew EMI had been gobbled up by Citibank, but I generally just assume all major record companies are evil to begin with and extend that to any associated business syndicates.

Yes in all honesty it?s inconceivable that Mr T would put a foot wrong.

For Utada to sign a contract that would ultimately conflict with her desire to take a Hiatus makes no logical sense.

And rightly pointed out, EMI current management over a decade and more have painstakingly looked after Utada career assembling a dedicated management team with experience and passion that has provided the freedom for Utada to develop as a hugely successful artist and musician.

One noticeable aspect from Hikaru Utada (myself right now) documentary and ?the making of? Goodbye happiness was how creative and forthright Utada came across in making sure certain requirements were fulfilled, some points Utada made were explained in precise detail.

At first part of me did not want to except the possibility of Utada playing a ?role? in the US X factor a hoax, which is rather bonkers I know, but these last few months, Wildlife, CM?s, Interviews, tweets have afforded fans a more close up and personal insight to Utada, for a brief moment it was a tremendous buzz to think that Utada might have been approached to take part.

Utada is blessed when placed in front of a camera, radiating an infectiously likable quality, with the X Factor?s 16 to 34 audience range, a potential 30m plus viewers, get the format to work more for Utada?s style, I?m thinking on the editing side, and it easy to let ones imagination get carried away?

I've never been so excited and disappointed in 2 minutes.

I say this thread should be closed.
