not every fact in the website is true......only some of it..and i dun really agree that learning japanese is that hard for sure...becoz i am learning it for one year...for someone that want to learn japanese...pls do not trust that site fully..^^

Just as a question, I was always told that the "o" sound is like the "a" in "water". Like, big open "o", but neither long or short (as is described in English. >.>)

AND, I was also told (once) that "onegai" was for requests. As opposed to the traditional "please".

E.g.

Could I have a cup of water please? <=== "kudasai"
Could you please pass the salt? <===="onegai"

Or so I was told. I've seen otherwise, so I just wanted to inquire further. >.>

And about "mama", it means "like" or "still".

E.g.

Kono mama <====="like this"
Atsui mama <====="[the weather's] still warm/hot"

I've studied JP out of a book for a year now, I think. I like to believe I can answer some questions and hold a half-decent conversation, but I'm probably wrong.

I studied Japanese in the spring and summer of 2002. I only get to practice it on occasion now, but I still try to read Japanese sites and listen to music etc.

Sorry it has been a while since I have posted in this thread. The last scans I made didn't turn out and I haven't had time to rescan them. I will hopefully have more this week.

"mama" that you refer to..it means something like so so....or for example someone ask you how was the food...then if you answer "mama" it means the food is still ok...
