In a SONGS interview, Utada acknowledged that Tomodachi is written in the perspective of a gay person and their unrequited love for a straight friend (welcome to my life lol). As expected, a crybully took to Twitter and accused her, as a straight person, of stereotyping the community. Her response? "Who says I'm straight?" and followed with "My sexual orientation aside. To say gay ppl can only be understood or portrayed by other gay ppl is sad and alienating, no?"

I screamed in delight when I saw this unfold. it was was a calm response, indirect yet forward enough to be informative.
also, I loved the OP's reply back to her, which was, "@utadahikaru OMG! I TAKE IT BACK! I LOVE YOU LGBT QUEEN!" LOL |

I kind of figured that she wasn't straight when she was talking about finding a woman hot on one of her old blog entries.
