so this is really random...but i write poetry. and i like reading/discussing poetry. so if you have a favorite poem that you've written or read, or anything that has to do with any kind of poetry, hit this topic up.

i'll start it off with one of my own.

CONSEQUENCE

i'm crying out for a hand to hold and a
soul to ode. the desired muse is near but far;
i feel it, feel it blessing me
with this curse, burning an image onto
my vision that will never become real.

i knew it all along...yet i chose not to avert my eyes.

Writing is a talent that comes to me most difficultly these days:



BEYOND THE WINDOW

In the house of youth you gazed through the window,
In your eyes then was the world captured,
In the deep of your heart was impressed a far green country with a swift sunrise;
In truth an image that the world never did show.

From the shadow you sought to light,
From behind the sill you dared to dream,
From the youthful fires you set to cause,
From this cause you marched away to set things aright.

And now that so many years have passed:

What wonderful creatures have you now seen?
What colourful souls have you met?
What enlightened knowledge have you now?
What ailes you; silent and deep pain that should have never been?

The cold truth has muddled your mind,
The hot fires in your eyes burn no longer,
The grey world is yet unchanged,
The thick ropes that tie still do bind.

In solemn grief you have lost your warm heart,
In dead complacency you have resigned,
In cold defeat went with your burning spirit,
In for what did you set to start?

Shall it be then that we stray never before these walls?
Shall it be that we hide behind innocence?
Shall it be that we forever gaze beyond the sill?
Shall it be that when we set to depart - we find that your fate be true for all?

Perhaps it's being presumptuous, but your poem - is it about an unrequited love?

I like the use of the oxymoron: blessed + curse.

DOUBLE VISION

the eyes are the windows to the soul.

right now
i don?t see
anything
except a fleeting
glance at possibility failed.
(holding hands
in the dark--
united yet
divided) i realize

reality drumming on
the surface of my
existence like a
rainstorm.

i have you
burned on
the inside of
my eyelids.
i shiver in my soul
as the fire fades.

dareka no negai ga kanau koro anoko ga naiteru yo.


(so I'm not quite sure if the hikki reference at the end goes exactly, but you get the point i suppose)

For whom will the horn blow?

For he who fell beneath the sword;
Blood flowing, life dimming,
But with heart lively burning?

For whom will the horn blow?

For he who his life doth give joy;
Faces smiling, hearts warming,
But with own soul silently suffering?

For whom will the horn blow?

For he who toils heavily,
Arms aching, chest heaving,
But with labour deeply rewarding?

For whom will the horn blow?

For he who embraces grief;
Soul wailing, heart aching,
But with thankless sacrifice joy-making?

For whom will the horn blow?
Before lonely hill and empty valley,
With resounding call it forth sally.

For whom will the horn blow?
A weightless prize bereft of reward,
To where should this nameless honour bear toward?

LESSON LEARNED

they told me to wait.

and i sat
twiddling my fingers,
rolling my eyes,
resisting their voices
ringing true in my head.

i couldn't take anymore, so
i stood and fought,
forced the tides to turn
for me, myself, and my
restless mind.

but my soul was never
satisfied...i kept fighting,
sacrificing sense to appease it.
soon, there stood a hole
at the bottom of my heart.

as i collapsed, weak from
a war but weary of warnings,
that incessant voice from
above and inside
whispered one word:

"WAIT."

unclenching my fists,
willing myself to be still,
i succumbed to the word
that has never left,
but always waited for me--
the one i ignored in the beginning.

now i feel my strength returning,
i see a warm horizon that i
never thought i'd see.

fate has forgiven my
failure to follow
the faithful voice.

i shall wait
for the sun to rise...
instead of forcing it to myself.
