this has been on my mind for the last couple of days. i cant help but thinking that hikaru did slower versions of her songs in her albums that turned out quite better than the original versions.

in distance, the music is upbeat and quite contrasts the sad lyrics of the song. what hikaru did was released a slower version of the song which was better that the original.

the same is true with flavor of life. the original version is faster while the ballad version is more easy to listen too and is more appropriate with the lyrics of the song.

the album version of colors have heavy synthesized tones and an upbeat tempo. if you will listen to the united 2006 concert version, it was much simpler and more intimate with the piano and strings section.

i think hikaru should continue doing this and put out slow and upbeat version of her songs. i think the slower song versions brings out the beauty of her voice and is a much more emotional experience.


ps: thank god hikaru did not put out an upbeat version of dareka no negai ga kanau koro. lol.

Also the ballad version of flavor of life sounds better because of the violins and the gentle sound of the piano.

Final Distance is a beautiful piece but Distance isn't bad too. Distance makes people happy while Final Distance is the exact opposite. You're right though, her vocals shines more when she does slower version of her songs. Colors from UU06 was simply amazing.

Can hardly imagine how a fast version of Dareka will sound like. And also thank god there isn't an upbeat version of Be My Last. I'd die.

yeah that would be weird. also, thank god there isn't a ballad version of traveling, or an upbeat version of eternally.

Well, that's why remixes exist for that reason. Who knows some of her fans might just make an upbeat version of her slow songs or the other way round. The PLANITB remixes of Hikari / Simple & Clean are not really to my taste. Takes away the emotions of the song.

The Utada United version of COLORS was great. I wish she released an official studio version.

I always admired Hikki's ability to rearrange her songs. She's one of the dew singer songwriters that I know who is actually involved in the arrangement of his/her songs. She even arranges the strings on her songs! Do we know other any other artist who does that? Plus she produces her own music.

She's too awesome for words.
