I can never tell if people are being tongue-in-cheek or not when they get indignant over Utada being compared with western artists. Be it Britney Spears or Mariah Carey or Madonna, it's pretty clear that it's a quick reference to "this is how big she is" point across.

Comparing her to Madonna is actually really flattering I think. How many celebrities ANYWHERE have the staying power that Madonna does? She's been famous and selling tons of albums since the 80's. It's 2009. I think they're just trying to tell Americans who haven't heard of her that she's incredibly talented and a Japanese equivalent to Madonna in terms of fame and talent.

(I don't think Madonna is an amazing singer but she's a fantastic dancer and a great performer)

I called it first!!! Almost 10 years ago now... wow it has been that long!! I can't believe that as it will be 10 years since First Love was released and I became a huge fan. I remember me stumbling across it back when I was still just a kid!!! NE WAYS KEEP PROMOTING URSELF HIKKI!!!
