Well, sorry about causing such a fuss about the Catholicism thing. I don't think I would've been so mad if you had maybe said you didn't claim to know about Catholicism.
But it's behind me now. Anyway, yeah, you don't have to be Christian to celebrate Christmas (I think I pointed that out, anyway ) and I did some research into religion in Japan. Shintoism is the main religion there (obviously, and as if we didn't know that), but Buddhism is practiced as well. However, it was introduced by the Koreans. Judaism is practiced mostly by Americans and Europeans in synagogues in Tokyo and Kobe, and US military bases. There are some Japanese who also practice and claim to be descendants of the two Lost Tribes of Israel (the Dan and the Zebulun). Islam has a small following in Japan, along with Hinduism and Sikhism (from what I read, it was introduced by the Chinese). Most Christian Japanese are Protestant, though there are some Catholics. hitomi (pop singer) is a Christian. As I assume a fair few people know, Christian symbolism is used in anime like Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Ayumi Hamasaki and HYDE have used Christian symbolism in some of their videos (Ayu portrayed the Virgin Mary in the video for M). It's most likely she's a follower of Shintoism or Buddhism, though with all this info in mind it's pretty hard to tell. D: |
