Well you can't question his intentions. He wants to make the strongest squad and WIN the World Cup. Did I say win? England haven't won the tournament since 1966, when they were the host nation. But will he however? Can't say. I think “can he” would be more appropriate. With an already star filled squad, one questions just why England play badly, well not badly, but not up to expectation. Is it chemistry? Sense of reputation on who gets the ball? But whatever the reason is, experimenting close to the tournament kick-off wasn't the best of plans from the Italian gaffa. Good yes because he didn't want to mirror image himself to former England boss Steve McClaren, who injected Steven Gerrard with painkillers so he could play “comfortably” during a crucial qualification tie for Euro 2008 against Israel instead of going with a healthy, but less star-studded player. You need variety in players, have the luxury to interchange them when they get injured and still feel confident to win. England go only about like 23-25 players deep. Any player other than that is uncharted territory, though those players are talented as well. So intentions on handing out experience to “the future of England”, understandable by Capello, but not the best decision in this particular predicament. Still switching up formations/players back and forth within the roster this close wasn't the brightest thing. Here, he was to beat down countries in friendlies to ensure morale is high. He hasn't.
