I taught myself for a while, and then I did study abroad in Japan and got about a college semester out of it.

If anyone is interested, I can scan my level 1 book. It was designed specifically for the class I took and is relatively hiragana and katakana free.

I warn you, there are many of my scribblings and bibblings throughout. Let me know!
