[Nov 09-04, New York] Utada attends the premiere of "After the Sunset" (starring Pierce Brosnan, Salma Hayek & Woody Harrelson) at the Ziegfeld Theater in NYC.

"It's a popcorn movie," 21 year-old Japanese pop star Utada reported joyfully. "It totally succeeded." ...
Utada looked adorable in a cut-off jeans skirt and a skull print Libertine sweater. She is from New York, but has taken a leave from Columbia University and spends about half the time in Japan where she draws enormous crowds. Her favorite New York designer is Jeff Staples on Orchard Street. (Yahoo News Fashion)

FORGET Salma Hayek — the real star at the "After the Sunset" premiere at the Ziegfeld the other night was New York-based Utada Hikaru, who's a huge pop star in Japan although little known here. Utada, 21, who goes by her first name, was on hand to support director Brett Ratner, who used her song, "Blow My Whistle," in his movie "Rush Hour 2." Utada, on leave of absence from Columbia University, has her first U.S. album, "Exodus," out now on Island Def Jam. (New York Post Online)
