"When I came to New York for university, I didn't think anyone would know me because I was only famous in Asia," 21-year-old Japanese pop sensation Utada told us. But the Columbia student, who has three multimillion-selling albums in Japan, was well known enough that she "couldn't live in a dorm because the security wasn't that good."
"I came here, and everyone's asking me, 'I heard you were like the Japanese Britney Spears,'" Utada told us when we caught up to her at the release party for her album "Exodus," out now from Def Jam. "I was just mortified."
