After nearly four year since the IN THE FLESH 2010 tour began, the concert video is now available from iTunes Japan, and shortly iTunes US (no word on other regional iTunes yet). IN THE FLESH, was a small venue concert tour that Hikki did in various cities across the United States and in London, UK. The tour was an opportunity for her Western fans to get up close in a small intimate performance (much closer than any Japanese stadium concert).

Ann posted on her tumblr about her run-in with Hikki on March 12th, 2013 on the Victoria Line of the London Underground (in of course London, UK).

The picture looks real, read more about her encounter after the jump.

The following is a fan account of an encounter with Hikki, apparently during a train ride in London.

Quote:

So today I met Japanese SUPERSTAR Utada Hikaru!

I was on my way to Belsize Park riding the Northern line when at either Angel or Kings Cross a small Japanese lady got on the tube a few feet away from me.

I looked at her and I thought to myself ?LOL she looks like Utada? and was laughing to myself-some Taiwanese dudes to the left of me started laughing at ME because they obviously thought I was crazy or something.

Anyway as the train becomes emptier (after Camden Town) I get a better view of the woman sitting down and thats when I?m like, ?Wait that could be Utada!? But then I was like nah, ?Why would she be in London?? plus she looks almost EXACTLY like she did on the ?Ultra Blue? cover with the same bob cut?

So I decided to gas myself up and played ?Sakura Drops? and imagined what I?d say to her if I met her.

Curiosity really got the better of me so I stood up when the tube was near Belsize (so I could get a better look) and when I looked directly at the woman I was damn near sure it was her.

So I went up to her and said ?Excuse me are you Utada Hikaru?? and she had her earphones on so she asked me to repeat what I said and when I did a bashful grin spread across her face and she said, ?Yes I am?.

Luckily there was an empty seat next to her so I sat down and shook her hand and started chatting with her. I showed her that I was listening to ?Sakura Drops? and she was very shocked at that.

I asked her why she was here and she said she was just visiting a friend and was a bit disappointed with how the weather changed-she?s been here for over a week so far and staying around the Camden area (I won?t say where exactly).

I told her how she was the first Japanese artist I ever heard (apart from Ryu Sakamoto) and she was like ?Wow Really??

She asked ME how I even found out about her and I explained that from loving Chinese music and being on forums (like JPM which I told her about a bit) that people talked about the ?First Love? cd and her song for Kingdom Hearts-LOL that part of the conversation made me laugh because there I was, listing Hikki?s discography to her as if she didn?t know her own music-I?m so lame.

I told her that I went to the show in Islington (if you never went you missed a great show!) and she thanked me for that and I asked her if she?s ever going to do another one. She said it?s all up in the air and that she was on a break (I told her how pressed everyone got when she did that and she laughed!). But she said that she?s currently working on a few projects that she couldn?t really talk about but new stuff is coming soon!

I did ask for a photo but she said she?s not really taking photos right now-and I could see that she felt bad for having to say that, but I was like ?No that?s fine, it?s just great to finally meet you!?

After her stop came up (YES I missed my stop just to keep talking to her LOL) we got off together and walked and talked till I realised I was going to be late for my meeting so I thanked her for the music and she said it was nice to meet me and shook my hand again and went off on her way!

She is TINY under 5 foot and she was wearing pink converse and animal print skinny jeans and she still rocks the short bowl cut from way back when!
She looks EXACTLY like the photos and she hasn?t aged at all.
All in all was a GREAT night! If you?re in London and you see a woman that looks like Hikki, don?t chance it, go up to her and say hi!

Various online Japanese CD retailers (neowing.co.jp, yesasia.com, cdjapan.co.jp) have posted to their catalogs, a new English Utada Album to be released November 24th, 2010. It is a sixteen track greatest hits album of her American work. No word yet on any releases for outside of Japan.

[UPDATE] (Oct.24.2010)
Utada tweeted to fans today regarding the upcoming Universal Japan release of "Utada The Best", a compilation 'best of' album of her English work, and how it is being release without her blessing.
Quote:

@utadahikaru
The release of "Utada the best" is entirely against my will. I wish that my fans won't have to buy it. There's no new material in it.

In other Japanese posts, she even mentions how Universal was deciding on releasing this "Utada The Best" compilation album at the same time as her ?Single Collection Vol. 2? that is being released by EMI. Utada says that more detail about this will be released later on.

[UPDATE #2](Oct.25.2010)
Utada has just posted an more detailed message about this "Utada The Best" issue on her U3music.com blog. She talks about the circumstances to which this other compilation album is being released, and her feelings about it and how it 'coincides' with her EMI release of UHSC2. She seems concerned about how this release will affect her fans. You can read the English translation here

Just announced on Hikki's twitter (@utadahikaru), she says that 'footage' from the USA+UK concert tour from January and February 2010 will be released soon:

Quote:

@utadahikaru
In The Flesh Tour's footage will be released in some form, hopefully soon(as soon as some technicalities are cleared). We'll let you know!

I guess all the constant English tweets asking about an In The Flesh Concert DVD worked!

Afterwards, her dad, Teruzane (@u3music), Tweeted that the video is complete and had been edited, and they have been trying to get it available on iTunes, but have been having issues with the store. They may be looking for other methods of distribution as well.

Quote:
@u3music:
We have been discussing w/ Apple i-Tunes to utilize the US/London 2010 tour video, by the way, it is already mixed/edited. teruzane

Quote:
@u3music
Apple is having technical problems. Need to find other options to release more timely ways via internet. Please be patient. teruzane

They promise to get it out before the end of 2010!

The next stop for Utada on her "In The Flesh" concert tour is tonight (Feb. 2) in Chicago! The SOLD OUT show will be at The House of Blues @8pm.

Hope everyone has Fun! ... and please let us know your experiences here on the forum or live on Twitter hashtag #Utada.

UPDATE:
It seems that this was an interesting show. To start off, it seems security was a bit 'unpleasant', ex. a fan who came from Brazil being denied entry. Also noteable was during DJ Mike Rizzo's performance, a fan who got on stage with a mask and began dancing; as well, there was a noteable very 'excited' fan from the balcony, that sung loudly and dove to catch at kuma ball. It also seems that some of the crowd did not know about the 'encore' and left after 'Dirty Desire'.
Hikki talked about missing the cold weather and how Chicago is like New York. Before the concert, she went to the Art Institute museum. She wore a white and black dress, with a black-striped transparent shawl.

Utada doing a 'drop' message for Supa Good DJs. You can download an MP3 of the message on their page. From this SGDJ blog entry, DJ K-SMOOTH asked Hikki to do this while she was in Hawaii - likely just before the 'In The Flesh' tour started after the first 'In The Flesh' show in Hawaii.

Utada will be in Nevada today for her "In The Flesh" concert tour tonight (Jan. 30) in Las Vegas! The show will be at The House of Blues @8pm.

Hope everyone has Fun! ... and please let us know your experiences here on the forum or live on Twitter hashtag #Utada or #UtadaLV.

UPDATE:
Looks like it was a completely packed house. There are reports that it was very hot, and about 25 people may have fainted during the show.
At the end, Utada said that this show was her best concert of the In The Flesh tour so far. The autographed balls she threw out this time had Kuma gambling on it.
